________________ Shri Mahavir Jain Aradhana Kendra www.kobatirth.org Acharya Shri Kailassagarsuri Gyanmandir Zoological Section This section contains a fairly representative collection of the Animal Kingd A habitat group case of Gir Lions and a few sinall but interesting dioramas show birds and mammals, are the outstanding exhibits in the Zoology Section. Gir Lions The Lions once common in many parts of the Indian Union are now restri to the Gir forest of Gujarat State in India. The Habitat Group Case of Gir Lic Baroda Muscum presents a rcalistic picture of their natural habitat in the Gir Forcst is perhaps thc only display of its kind in the world. The mammals are arranged in an cvolutionary order. The specimens incl monkeys, bats, molcs, hedgehogs, carnivores, rodents etc. There arc also a few r. iature dioramas showing the mammals in their natural habitat, The Bird gallery contains a fairly representative collection of Birds from Guj and Saurashtra. It includes a large varicty of colourful birds of various orders, Babblers, Woodpeckers, owls, prey birds, yamc birds and sca birds. The diorama: the weaverbirds, the jungle fowls, the serpent Eagle, the water birds as also a dioramas depicting nesting habits of birds arc of great interest to the public. The gallery also contains a good collection of lizards, snakes, frogs and fish. Of the invertebrate animals, there is presentative collection of molluscan sk mainly from Naples and beautiful specimens of various groups of animals such Crabs, Lobsters, Starfishes, Sca urchins, Corals, Sponges ctc. Ethnology Sections (Indian and Foreign) This section comprised cultural documentation on Indian and forcign primi tribes viz., agricultural cquipment, simple houschold goods, artisan's implements cluding musical instrument) ctc. It contain much valuable and even rare material An interesting habitat group case of Rabaris, which faithfully represents various aspects of their lifc, is the most outstanding cxhibit of the Indian Ethnolog section. The section also contains in addition to this, a smaller showcase depic styles and small sculptures from Mathura, Buddhist and Hindu images represen physical types, hair styles, original turbans from Gujarat, Kathiawad and Maharas! house idols, cult utensils ctc. Also on view, is a collection of jewelry, costumc pic clay horses, household utensils used by the Bhils, Chodharas, Gamits-primitive to of Vyara and Songadh districts; textiles of the Vaghers of Okhamandal and s embroideries, basket work and other implements of Nagas, Mikir and Khasa in As: a collection of shields, spcars, drums, wooden idols ctc. from the Andaman and Nic islands.
