________________ 10 illustrations a definition of Upadhi, viz sādhanãoyāpakatve satı sadhyasamadyāptir upādhih' The third section explains another definition of upadhı vız sadhyāvinābhāve sapakşāsādhāranadharmayan upãdhih,' Morever, in this section the author points out that the defects of asıddha, viruddha, anaikāntika, satpratipakşa, etc are present when an Upadhi is present. The fourth section is devoted to the exposition of pratyupadhi which is defined as upādhyahatānumānānugrāhaka In the fifth section having pointed out various shortcomings of the definition of upadhi the author declares that upādhi is potbing over and above hetvābhasa He further states that Jaipa theoretricians do not recogaise in an upadhı any defect other than vyabhıcāra What follows the fifth section is a sort of an appendix which pertains to problems and benefits of argumentation. The author quotes anonymously from the Mimämsä ślokavārtika, the Siddhahema and the Físanabhangadhyāya of Jñānaśrımitra. He refers to and quotes from the Khandanakhandakhadya, the Syūdyadaratnākara Udayanacārya and the Byhanmahāydyāvidambana of Bhuvanasundarasūri. He simply refers to the Nyāyabindu (8) Pramānasara The text of this tract is edited on the basis of the ms belonging to Munirāja Shri Puayavijayaji's Collection preserved in L, D. Institute of Indology, Abemadabad-9 In the printed catalogue the ms, is given the serial No. 3508 Its size is 26 9 cms x 10.9 cms The ms consists of nine folios. Each side of the folio has 15 lines and each line has 54 letters The condition of the ms is good. The ms belongs to c. 18th century of Vikrama Era At the end of the text there occurs colophon, viz. ŚrīvęddhagacchalankarasäravadındracūdāmanikayısāryabhaumabhatjārakaśrīMunīśvarayıracitah Pramanasāragranthaḥ sampürnah 1 From the colophon we gather that the author belonged to Vrddha gaccha and that he earned the title Vadındracakracūdāmam. Our author seems to be identical with one Mudīśvarasuci mentioned in an inscription on an idol. In the inscription we are told that in V S. 1479 Munisvarasuri of Brhadgaccha got installed the idol.1 Again, in another 10scription dated V s. 1501 on an idol it is written that for the spiritual good (punyartha) of Vadiodracakracūdāmanı Mudiśvarasūri, who flourished in the line of Devacārya of Bịhad Gaccha after Jinaratnasari, Tılakasūri and Bhadreśvarasūri, the idol has been got installed The title occurring in this inscription exactly tallies with the one found in the colophon So, we conclude that J. Bikaner Jaina Lekha Sangraha, No 963, p 82. 2. Bikaner Jaina Lekha Sangraha, No 2152, P 298.
