भांति प्रचलित होने के प्रत्यक्ष्य और अकाट्य प्रमाण हैं सन् ईस्वी के प्रारम्भ में भी चौबीस तीर्थंकर उनके चिह्नों सहित अच्छी तरह से माने जाते थे। बहुत से लेख जैन- सम्प्रदाय के गण, कुल व शाखाओं में विभक्त होने के सभाचारों से भरे हैं और वे जैन ग्रन्थों के अच्छे समर्थक हैं । लेखों और चित्रों से जैन श्राविकाओं की सत्ता व स्त्रियों का जैन सम्प्रदाय में प्रभावशाली स्थान का अच्छा रुचिकर व्यौरा मिलता है ।
इनमें के कई लेख व चित्र इत्यादि डा. व्हूलर ने 'एपि ग्राफिआ इन्डिका' नामक पत्र की पहली जिल्द में छपवाये हैं । उनके विषय में स्मिथ साहब का मत है:
"The plates throw light among other things on the history of the Indian or Brahmi alphabet, on the grammar and idiom of the Prakrit dialects, on the development of Indian art, on the political and social history of Northern India, and on the history, organization and worship of the followers of the Indian religion.*"
