I have to say good many things about the opinions expressed by you in the Introduction of Kalpa Sootra (text) edited by you for which I am now collecting materials. By the by I should say we people on this side do not understand the German language. The English has been and is fast becoming the Linguia Franca of India. At this time good many enlightened people can read and write in that language. Hence it will be highly useful and convenient if books relating to Indian religions are edited and commented upon and prefaced in the English. I understand the scholars on your side understand both the English and the German. With reference to your first letter under reply I wish you may come here once and see every-thing with your eyes. Your difficulty about expenses is no doubt noted, but if you can see your way to prevail upon your Government to give you some gratuity I can try here for a smaller sum. Do you think Rs. 1000 or a little more from this side can be supplimented by your efforts there and make up the sum total mentioned by you. Your journey in the interior of India will help you much in your philological researches. I should like to know your views expressly on this point of expenses because I hope by the small influence I have got here, to be useful to you in prevailing upon one or two gentlemen to contribute to your expenses.
