157) समूहागय = come towards or approached (me) बोलीण गत अतिक्रान्त passed by my side. वोलीण turned backबोलिय (ppp. from बोल to go away ). See st. 178. बलिय wards towards me. पिय being shortened fqu (my beloved girl), the at in fqat for metre, according to H. 1, 4. विच्छोह विक्षेष tossing darting ( of glances, अछ अक्षि ). जणस्स जे हुंति ते हंतु, Ordinally lotuses, mango blossoms, jasmine flowers etc. are supposed to serve as the arrows of Madana (Cupid), who is therefore called पुष्पबाण, the god using flowers as arrows

158) कणयोर golden girdle or waist-band हुयवह the god of fire कनकसूत्र हुतवह ( अग्निदेव ) वरुण = the god of water. माहप्प माहात्म्य greatness, eminence हुयवहवरुणाण 'हुतवहरुणयोः from, i. c. by the favour of Agni and Varuna, the Gen. case being [used for the Abl. according to H. 3, 131 136. जहणारुहण जघनारोहण mounting on the hips or the waist. i. e. being worn on the hips (also mounting on the सोक्ख lower part of a woman's body in sexual intercourse) सुबख सौख्य, or = सुख with duplication of according to H. 2, 99. The reference here is to the practice of heating gold in fire and then dipping it in water during the fabrication of gold into ornaments, and also to the penance (divya) called after which consists in a person's standing under the hot sun in summer, surrounded by four blazing fires and then standing under raining clouds in the rainy season. This penance is supposed to enhance the physical hardiness and the spiritual greatness of the person practising it. It is also called अग्निपानीयव्रत or श्यामशबलव्रत and there is a covert reference to it in st. 383 below.
