440) जाव न... मालईमउलं while yet the jasmine bud has not even slightly attained to its unfolding. ताव च्चिय even then. आरुहणपाणलोहिल्ल भमर = Oh bee who are eager to perch on it and suck its juice For लोहिल्ल see note on st. 340. मलेसि मुनासि are rubbing (i. e. rough-handling, molesting it), For = see H. 4, 126. Cf. st. मृद् 575 and Vajja st. 242. The stanza suggests the rough behaviour of a young man who impatiently and impetuously makes love with his newly married immature wife. Contrast st. 439 and 580.

The stanza appears to be addressed by some one to a proud, haughty woman who has rejected the suit of a self-respecting and sensitive young man. Being disappointed by her, that young man would rather end his life than repeat his request to her.
