Chapter 34
THE GREAT TAO FLOWS EVERYWHERE
The Great Tao flows everywhere, (Like a flood) it may go left or right. The myriad things derive their life from it, And it does not deny them. When its work is accomplished, It does not take possession. It clothes and feeds the myriad things, Yet does not claim them as its own. Often (regarded) without mind or passion, It may be considered small. Being the home of all things, yet claiming not, It may be considered great. Because to the end it does not claim greatness, Its greatness is achieved.

महान ताओ सर्वत्र प्रवाहित है, (बाढ़ की तरह) यह बाएं-दाएं सब ओर बढ़ सकता है। असंभव्य वस्तुएं उसी से जीवन ग्रहण करती है, और यह उन्हें अस्वीकार नहीं करता। जब उसका काम पूरा होता है, तब वह उन पर स्वामित्व नहीं करता। असंव्य वस्तुओं को यह वस्त्र और भोजन देता है, तो भी उन पर मालकियत का दावा नहीं करता। प्रायः यह चित्त या वासना से रहित है, इसलिए तुच्छ या छोटा समझा जा सकता है, फिर सभी चीजों का, उन पर बिना दावा किए, आश्रय होने के कारण, वह महान भी समझा जा सकता है। ऑर चूंकि अंत तक वह महानता का दावा नहीं करता, इसलिए उसकी महानता उपलब्ध है।
