However, one chief point is that Karmavada is not Fatalism. It is not Niyativada. Along with this doctrine, one must understand the doctrine of Samvayas - the five associated causes. There are five factors working together. They are nature-Svabhava, Kala-time, Niyati destiny, Purvkarma & Purusartha-efforts. Jain Karmavada clearly declares that man is the master of his destiny. The doctrine implies freedom of responsiblility. Doing harm to others is doing harm to oneself. There is no predestination. Another significant feature of Karma doctrine in Jainism is its emphasis on self-reliance. No one can interfere in the working of law of Karm. There is no place for grace of God. However concept of God in Jainism is important for an aspirant to become like him. According to Karmas, man takes rebirth in any, KARMAVAD AND GOD and The celebrated and British theoretical physicist cosmologist STEPHEN HAWKING has asked a question in his best-seller book, `A brief History of Time'-'Where did we come from? Why is the universe the way it is?' four states of existence and goes to higher state due to impact of conduct; that is meritorious Karma (1) Naraki-Hell (2) Tiryanca-Subhuman (3) ManusyaHuman (4) Deva-Celestial. The final one is Moksa - Liberation. The key concept is one has to be careful to avoid influx of Karma so that final destination is reached. The path prescribed is three jewels-Ratnatrayi-Soul is essentially enlightened. The process of sheddhing off Karmas is of great importance to become Parmatma Though a soul's state is determined by various kinds of Karmas, there is, yet in him infinite power by which he can overcome all Karmas & get liberated enjoying infinite bliss. When Mohaniya Karma is destroyed, discriminative knowledge of soul & body arises & soul attains the state of super-soul. This is essence of religion-to become a spiritual conquerer or the Jina. `Salutation to Jinas'. Mobile: 9323079922/9323079922. He has also challenged the theory that God created Universe by stating that the universe is governed by a set of rational laws.' In his conclusion he writes (Pg. 190-191) Upto now, most scientists have been too occupied with the development of new theories that describe what the universe is to ask the question why. On the other hand, the people whose business it is to ask why, the philosophers, have not been able to keep up with the advance of scientific theories. In the eighteenth century, philosophers considered the whole human knowledge, including science, to be their field and discussed questions such as: did the universe have a beginning? However, in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, science became too technical and mathematical for the philosophers, or anyone else except a few specialists. Philosphers reduced the scope of their inquiries so much that Wittgenstein, the most famous philosopher of this century, said, 'The sole remaining task for philosophy is the analysis of language.' What a comedown from the great tradition of philosophy from Aristotle to Kant!' In 2010, he has again set off `Science v/s Religion' debate by dismissing the role of God as Creator of Universe, by publishing his book `The Grand Design'. In this book he has said (Pg. 171-172). `The laws of nature tell us how the universe behaves, but they don't answer why? 1. Why is there something rather than nothing? 2. Why do we exist? 3. Why this particular set of laws and not some other? Some would claim the answer to these questions is that there is a God who chose to create the universe that way. It is reasonable to ask who or what created the universe, but if the answer is God, then the question is merely been deflected to that of who created God. We claim, however, that it is possible to answer these questions purely within the realm of science, and without invoking any divine beings.'
