No. 12.] JODHPUR INSCRIPTION OF PRATIHARA BAUKA; V. S. 894.

by Arab writers 1 seems to show that it consisted of a part of the Panjab just to the north-west of Rājputāns. Reference is twice made (vv. 27, 29) to Mayora, a king defeated by Banka. We know of no such king, but Hiuen Tsiang refers to a city called Mo-Yu-lo (or Mayūra) situated near Gangadvåra mentioned in v. 23. Mayura of our inscription may refer to the king of the locality.
Trētā-tirtha (v. 20) and Bhūakūpa (v. 27) cannot be identified. But Ganga-dvāra (v. 23) and Mudgagiri (v. 24) are well known names denoting respectively Haridvār and Monghyr.
