7. Status determing Karma 8. Obstrective Karma.
Out of these Auyam i.e. life span determing, body making and obstructive karma is important in the present context. samaysara, also agrees with it as its 249th verse indicates.
aukkhayena maranam jivanam jinavarehim pannatam aum na haranti fuha kaha te maranam kayam fehim.
It is declared by Jaina that death of living beings is caused by disappearance of their age-determining Karma.
The 252nd verse indicates in brief the whole idea of aging of an individual, our on can observe -
Audayena jivadi jivo evam bhamanti savvanhu aum ca na ditti tuham kaham nu te jiviyam kayam tehim.1
The omniscient ones declare that an organic being lives because of operation of age-karma. The commentary explains that the life of an organic being depends upon the operation of life span (age) Karma. So long as the age karma persists to operate organic being continues to live. When it ceases to be life also ceases to be, since the age karma is entirely self determined its operation it cannot be given by any body else.?
It is the life span determing karma which determines the kind and period of life span organism undergoes. But even body determining karma does play an important with life span determining karma: The following six body determining karma. Without which, the life span bondage do not occur:
1. State of being - Gati nâmaniddhatta âyu'ya 2. Duration - Sthiti nâmaniddhatta âyu'ya 3. Body size - Avagâhana niddhatta Ayushya
