तपस्या के फलस्वरूप प्राप्त स्वर्ग के सुख समाप्त प्रायः हो जाने पर च्यवन के समय जैसे कोई देवी शोक करती है वैसे ही वह नौका शोक मग्न हो गई ।
उसके काठ से बने भाग चूर-चूर हो गये। उसकी मेढ़ी (मोटे लट्ठे का बना आधार ) तथा माल ( ऊपरी भाग), जहाँ सहस्रों यात्री बैठते थे, भग्न हो गये थे। उसका परिमास (नौका का काठ का एक भाग) सूली पर चढ़े व्यक्ति के समान मुड गया था।
लकड़ी के पाटियों को जोड़ने वाले लोहे के कीले तडतडाकर निकल गये और जोड़ों के खुल जाने से उसके समस्त अवयव बिखर गये। रस्सों के गल जाने से उनसे बंधे जोड भी खुल गये । इस प्रकार वह नाव कच्चे सिकोरे जैसी हो गई । उसकी दशा पुण्यहीन व्यक्ति के मनोरथ जैसी दयनीय हो गई और चिंता से उसका भार बढ़ गया ।
उस पर सवार कर्णधार, नाविक, व्यापारी, कर्मचारी आदि हाय ! हाय ! कर रो रहे थे।
अनेक प्रकार के रत्नों तथा बिक्री के माल से भरी रोने वाले, क्रन्दन करने वाले, शोक करने वाले और आँसू बहाने वाले सैंकडों लोगों से भरी वह नाव जल मग्न ( अदृश्य) एक पर्वत से टकरा गई। उसकी मस्तूल और तोरण टूट गये । ध्वज दंड मुड गया। उसके सैकड़ों काष्टखण्ड टूट गये । as - कs की ध्वनि के साथ वह नाव वहीं डूब गई।
STORM IN THE SEA
8. Unexpected thunder and lightning started. Suddenly a terrible storm with ear shattering whiplash sounds engulfed them.
The ship whipped by a murderous stormy gale started trembling, swaying to and fro, vanishing and reappearing, circling around caught in the tremendous force of whirling waves and going up and down like a ball tossed on the ground.
It went up as a divine girl with her acquired power ascends from the surface of the earth into the sky.
It fell as a divine girl deprived of her powers falls from the heavens.
It started running from one place to another as runs a serpent goddess afraid of a giant eagle.

It started galloping like a colt frightened by uproar of a large crowd.
It started bowing down as a girl from a cultured family bows when her elders become aware of her misdeed.
It started trembling under the continuous thrashing of hundreds of waves. That ship started falling down in the air like an unbound object.
