Throughout the Empire had he completest honour. Sūdishtā! yah kyā kiya sitām! Hãe! hãe! | O Südisht! what crime is this ? Alas! woe is me! 660 Yah dunyā hai aise koņ, kiya koi na pãe, Such is this world, no one gets his due, Kahăn hai wah daulat, kabáņ wah hal, Where is that wealth, where that position, Ajab qudratāņ teriyan, zul-jalal! Strange are Tby judgments, 0 Omnipotent! Kahe mil apas mon apan ahl-i-riz, Those in the secret say, gathered together, Sayadat kā nā-haqq dubāyā jahāz, The ship of the priestly line is wrecked, 665 Nabwat ki angushtari kā nagin, The central stone in the signet ring of the Prophet's house, Jigar goshah-i-Fatimah bi,l-yaqin, The heart in the bosom of Fatimah, the veritable, Parā gard lohū mane lal ho, He fell in the dust reddened with bis blood, Girā ekalā ran moņ be-hal ho; He fell in single combat all exhausted; Yah gham jag mon jab ashkārā hū, ā When this grief became known to the world 670 Jigar gūt 'alam kā, pāri hū,a. Everybody's heart broke and fell in pieces. Hazár äh, afeos, ai dostān! Alas! a thousand times alas ! O friends! Chhipa, baif !, dunyä taiņ wahů nau-jawan! Vanished from the world, woe! is that comely youth! Ajab Seyyad, ala-nisbat, khān thā, A wonderful Lord of high degree, a Khan was he, Parāsat ke daftar ka Sultan thā, King in the council of the sagacious. 675 Kaban dhindhiyān ab, kaho, Khan koņ, Where now shall we seek, tell me, for that Khan, Risālat ki moti pareshān kon P That scattered pearl of heavenly mission ? Nanhe 'umr mon kyūn khapāyā use? In tender age why have you destroyed hina ? Le jā-kar, dekho, dukh dikhāyā ūse. He was taken, you see, and bebeld sorrow. Nah ärām dil kon, nah khāțir qarar, No peace for my mind, the heart never at rest, 680 Jigar jal dharaktā hai, jaisa angār, My liver on fire, blazing like a hot coal, J1,e lag nah ab kis tain yāri karen, All my life long no further friend have I, Yah gham dil mon rakh, bard-bäri karen; Hiding this grief in ny heart I will silently Buffer; Dunya hai daghā-bāz, fāni-magam, The world is but a deceiver, a passing show, Hai dil bāndhuāņ is soņ bi,l-kull þarām, Attachment to it is altogether wrong. 685 Qila h kā qila-b-där-i-alā-qadr The fort-commander of high degree Sayādat ke nāte pe rakh kar Darr, Looked with favour on the Prophet's descendant, Liya qila'h moņ, ur kaha ishkār; Took her into the fort and said openly: "Maiņ momiti, musulman, dindar, "I am orthodox, a believer, a religious man, “ Tambāre mere lāj ik lāj hai. “ Your desires and mine are one and the same. 690 "Meri qaul tūmana sete aj hai, "This day I pledge you my word, "Rafaqat tūmhāri ji ke sanghāt, "I take your side with heart and soul, " Main jāgir, mangab taiņ dhowen haiņ häth, "I wash my hands of rank and lands, "Jo kūcbh ho thāra karegā so ho, "Come what come may, "Main baitha hūņ, sab bāt so hath dho, "Here I sit, having washed my hands of every thing,
