2. Principles Followed by Dr. H. Jacobi in his Edition of PC.
From a study of the Mss. J, K and Kh we can make out some of orthographical and grammatical preferences that guided H. Jacobi' in the selection of redings in his cditing the text of Paumacariyam published in 1914. They are indicated below:(i). In the case of the forms of denominatives and the roots of the tenth class, preference is
given to readings with anti or innti overe those with erti. (i) Preference is given to the reading eliding an intervocalic consonant over those preserving it. (iii) Readings having h in place of bh are preferred over those retaining the latter. (iv) Medial dental nasal n is uniformly given as cerebral ņ.
Clusters that have resulted from an original m or ny are uniform[y given as nn. (vi) For metrical reasons preference has been given to hl over hit (instrumental plural termin
ation) and to i over im (neutre nom./acc. plural termination).

3. Orthograpeical Confusions of the Mss.
(i) VOWELS: Orthographical confusions between the quantities as also qualities of vowels,
displacing and misplacing of mäträs, misplacing of and addition of the anusvåra dot and misreading of vowels like i and e as ram and pa respectively are generally noted in all the manuscripts. though they are increasingly frequent in manuscripts later in date. (ii) CONSONANTS: Consonantal confusions are noted below:
Instances of metathesis as hora=raha are found in all the manuscripts.
