for the upkeep of the library, the fellowships etc. It is proposed to divide the building in three parts-- The central hall, to accomodate research works and also to serve as a reading room and a Lecture Hall, two şide wings on each side of the central hall to contain the library books etc. - The committee of the institute has been able to collect a sum of Rs. 40,000/- which has been spent thus. Rs. 10,000/- were spent in purchasing the plot of land measuring 14 acres and Rs. 29,500/- for constructing the central hall. The Tata Brothers have contributed Rs. 21,000/- for the hall and it is named the J. N. Tata Research Hall. The value of the insti. tute is greatly enhanced by the Government's trans. fering to it the valuable collection of Manuscripts at the Deccan college. The Government have also been pleased to sanction a grant of Rs. 3000/- per annum for the upkeep of the library and have besides entrusted the committee with the Budget amount of Rs. 12000/yearly for publication purposes. Dr. Sır Bhandarkar has placed his rich collection of books and manuscripts at the disposal of the institute, which it is hoped will truely prove a boon and satisfy a long-felt want. At its last anniversary a donation of Rs. 25000)- was announced by Muniraj Shri Jinvijayaji for the development of jain literature.
The Deccan college collection of sanskrit and Prakrit manuscripts is the largest of its kind in the world and
