________________ श्री राजकुमारसिंहजी के पत्र परिशिष्ठ The Mall Kashmere Gate Simla, Bombay 5-8-1918 The Bhandarkar Oriental Research Institute, Poona This institute was found in july 1915 to commemorate the magnificient and lifelong services rendered to the cause of sanskrit studies by Dr. Sir R G. Bhandarkar, He has put the critical study of ancient sanskrit learning on the most approved scientific basis adopted by eminent European Indologists. The aims of the promotors are to andow 20 fellowships of Rs. 50/- each for advanced research students who will be helped with expert advice by expereienced Shastris. All sort of rare sanskrit works will be collected so as to do away with the complaint so frequently made as to lack of materials etc. Card catalogues will be provided to facilitate easy reference. In short the institute aspires to become a rallying point for all research activities in oriental subjects with the use of most up to date methods found out by renowned European Savants. The library will be a first class collection of manuscripts bearing upon every religion and upon every branch of ancient learning. The preliminary estimate of expenses was put at a lac of rupees for initial costs (building and furniture etc....) with Rs. 20,000/- yearly recurring expenditure
