Du, but चिण्यदा Nichchayanayado, Jassa, whose. Chedapâ, conscious Chadupânâ, the four Prânas. according to Nischaya Naya ness. So, he. r Jivo, Jiva. 3. According to Vyavahâra Naya, that is called Jiva, which is possessed of four Prâņas, viz., Indriya (the senses), Bala (force), Ayu (life) and Âṇa-prâṇa (respiration) in the three periods of time (viz., the present, the past and the future), and according to Nischaya Naya, that which has consciousness is called Jiva. COMMENTARY. 7 Vyavahâra and Nischaya Naya is thus distinguished in Dravyânuyogatarkana of Bhoja: "तेनेदं भाष्यसंदिष्ट' गृहीतव्यं विनिश्चयम् । तत्वार्थ निश्चयो वक्ति व्यवहारो जनादितम् ॥" [ द्रव्यानुयोगतर्कणा । ८२३ । ] i. e., "Therefore, this is to be understood as described in the Bhâşya (Visesavasyaka-bhâşya, a celebrated Jaina work) that Nischaya narrates the real thing and Vyavahâra narrates things in the popular way." Vyavahara Naya, therefore, is the ordinary or common sense point of view in which we speak every day about the things of this world. But Nischaya Naya is the realistic point of view, which attempts an accurate description of the realities which are over *Sanskrit rendering: त्रिकाले चतुः प्राणाः इंद्रियं बलं आयुः आणप्राणः च । व्यवहारात् स जीवः निश्चयनयतः तु चेतना यस्य ॥ ३ ॥ Trikåle chatuḥprânâḥ indriyam balam âyuh ânaprâṇaḥ cha Vyavahârât sa jîvah nischayanayatah tu chetanâ yasya-(3).Page Navigation
