COMMENTARY. We have observed that Bhâvâsravas are thought-activities which prepare the way for the influx of matter into Jiva. Draryåsrava is the actual flowing in of matter into the soul by which the eight kinds of Karma mentioned in Verse 14, are produced. As it is easy for particles of dust to stick to the body of a person if the same be smeared with oil, so it becomes easier for particles of matter to enter a soul when it is vitiated by certain thought-activities (Bhâvâsravas). First of all, therefore, there are the reprehensible thoughtactivities (Bhâvásrava). These are followed by the influx of matter Dravyâsrava). When matter enters the soul in this manner, the eight kinds of Karma are produced.
Thus, Dravyâsrava may be said to be primarily of eight kinds, according to the eight varieties of Karma, viz., Jāânâvaraņiya, Darsanavarniya, Vedaniya, Mohaniya, Ayu, Nama, Gotra and Antarâya. Further subdivisions are also made of each of these kinds of Karmas. Jñânåvaraniya is said to be of five kinds-Darsanåvaraņiya of nine, Vedaniya of two, Mohanîya of twenty-eight, Ayu of four, Nama of ninety-three, Gotra of two and Antara ya of five kinds. The total number of the varieties of Dravyasrava is, therefore, one hundred and
