Jam, because. Muni, a sage. Niyama, by the rule. f Duviham, two kinds fa Pi, both Mokkhaheum, the cause of liberation. Jhâne, by meditation. Paunadi, gets. a Tamhâ, therefore. Jayam, yon. Payattachittâ, with careful mind Jhanam meditation. Samabhasaha, practise.
47. Because by the rule a sage gets both the (Vyavahâra and Nischaya) causes of liberation by meditation, therefore (all of) you practise meditation with careful mind.
COMMENTARY.
Perfect faith, perfect knowledge and perfect conduct are the causes of liberation from the ordinary point of view, while really the soul itself possessed of these three is the cause of liberation. By meditation, one can have perfect faith, perfect knowledge and perfect conduct, and one can understand the soul also only through meditation. Therefore, Dhyana or meditation is of supreme importance for a person who seeks liberation. The author therefore in this verse asks everyone who is eager to attain liberation to practise meditation.
