COMMENTARY. A Sadhu is one who is always active in attaining perfect conduct with perfect faith and perfect knowledge, and practises penances. The external effort of a Sadhu is seen when he tries to have perfect faith, knowledge and conduct, and practises excellent 1.C.:...* The internal effort of a Sâdhu is made when he fixes his mind upon the soul itself, which is the only receptacle of perfect faith, knowledge and conduct and excellent penances. A Sadhu is, therefore, one who is characterised by activity while moving in the path of liberation. This activity is solely directed to the attainment of means to liberation.
Herewith ends the detailed description of the characteristics of live kinds of Parameşthis, reverence to whom was inculcated in Verse 49. Bralımadera in his commentary said that, though reverence to five Parameşthis is prescribed from the ordinary point of view, it is really the soul the substratum of the Parameşthis which is to be meditated upon. I
जं किंचिवि चिंतंतो णिरीहवित्ती हवे जदा साहू । लघृणय एयत्तं तदाहु तं तस्स णिच्चयं झाणं ॥५५॥ Jam kiñchivi chintanto nirîhavittî have jadâ sâhû, Laddhûņaya eyattam tadâhu tam tassa ņichchayam jhanam-(55). * “उद्योतनमुद्योगो निर्वहणं साधनं च निस्तरणम् ।
हगवगमचरणतपसामाख्याताराधना सद्भिः ॥" +“सम्मत्तं सण्णणं सच्चारित्तं हि सत्तवो चेव । चउरो चिट्टहि यादि तम्हा आदा हु मे सरणं ॥"
[Verse (quoted in Brahmadera's Cominentary.] "अरिहासिद्धायरियाउवज्नयासाधुपंचपरमेट्ठी। ते वि हु चिट्ठहि यादे तम्हा प्रादा हु मे सरणं ॥"
[Verse quoted in Brahmadeva's Commentary.] Sanskrit rendering: ' यत् किञ्चिदपि चिन्तयन् निरीहवृत्तिः भवति यदा साधुः। लब्ध्वा एकत्वं तदा आहुः तत् तस्य निश्चयं ध्यानम् ॥५५॥ Yatkifichidapi chintayan nirihavrittiḥ bhavati yada sadhuh, Labdhva ekatvam tada ahuḥ tat tasya nischayam dhyanam-(55).
