चेदणपरिणामो जो कम्मस्सासवणिरोहणे हेऊ । सो भावसंवरो खलु दव्वासवरोहणे अण्णो ॥३४॥
Chedaņapariņāmo jo kamma--iisavanirohaņe heû. So bhâvasamvaro khalu davvâsavarohaşe anno.--
(34). Padapatha.-जो Jo, which. चेदणपरिणामो Chedanaparinamo, the modification of consciousness. कम्मस्स Kammassa, of Karma. आसवणिरोहणे Asavanirohane, in checking Asrara. हेऊ Hed, the cause. सो So, that. खलु Khalu, surely. Hradiad Bhâva-samvaro, Bhâva-saiņvara. Gateaza Davvâsa va-rohape, in checking Dravyasrava. अण्ण Anno, the other.
.34. That modification of consciousness which is the cause of checking Asrava (influx) of Karma, is surely Bhavasamvara, and the other (known as Dravyasamvara is known from) checking Dravyasrava.
COMMENTARY. Samvara is the antagonistic principle of Asrava.† The word is thus derived that which checks the causes of Karma, such as killing, etc. (i.e., that which stops Asrava', is known to be Samvara. I. Those by which the water of Karma is prevented from entering the pond of self, are known as Samvaras. Samvaras are refraining from killing, etc. $
To be more explicit, Asrava being the influx of Karma, through some openings (as we have seen before), Samvara is the stoppage of * Sanskrit renderring:
चेतनपरिणामः यः कर्मणः प्रास्त्रवनिरोधने हेतुः।
स भावसंवरः खल द्रव्यास्रवरोधने अन्यः॥३४॥ Chetana-pariņâmah yah karmanah asravanirodhane hetuh,
Sa bhậvasamvarah khala dravyásra va-lodhane anyah--(34). + "आस्रवप्रतिपक्षभूतः संवरः।"

आस्रव-निरोध इत्यर्थः।
