SHROADCARENINGS
कदाचित् (किसी की भूल से) सदोष आहार ग्रहण कर लिया हो तो वह (भिक्षु या ६. भिक्षुणी) उस आहार को लेकर एकान्त स्थान पर चला जाए या उद्यान या उपाश्रय में ही
जहाँ द्वीन्द्रियादि प्राणियों के अंडे न हों, जीव-जन्तु न हों, बीज न हों, हरियाली न हो, ओस के कण न हों, सचित्त जल न हो तथा चींटियाँ, लीलन-फूलन (फफूंदी), गीली मिट्टी या दलदल, काई या मकड़ी के जाले एवं दीमकों के घर आदि न हों, वहाँ उस संसक्त आहार से उन जीवों को पृथक् करके तथा उस मिश्रित आहार को शोध-शोधकर फिर यतनापूर्वक उपभोग कर ले। ____ यदि वह उस आहार को खाने-पीने में असमर्थ हो तो उसे लेकर एकान्त स्थान में चला
जाए। वहाँ जाकर दग्ध-(जली हुई) स्थंडिल भूमि पर, हड्डियों के ढेर पर, लोह के कूड़े के ढेर पर, तुष-(भूसे) के ढेर पर, सूखे गोबर के ढेर पर या इसी प्रकार के अन्य निर्दोष एवं प्रासुक (जीवरहित) स्थण्डिल-(स्थान) का भलीभाँति निरीक्षण करके, उसका रजोहरण से अच्छी तरह प्रमार्जन करके, फिर यतनापूर्वक उस आहार को वहाँ परिष्ठापित कर दे (डाल दे)।
CENSURE OF SACHIT (CONTAMINATED) FOOD
1. A bhikshu (male ascetic) or bhikshuni (female ascetic) entering a house of a householder (layman) to beg for food (and while inspecting the eatables) should find out if those eatables including staple food, liquids, general food and savoury food (this group of four types of food is oft repeated in the text as 'asanam va 4'; for convenience and brevity we shall use just food' for this from here on) are touching or are mixed with two sensed beings like those produced in liquids, moss or mould, seeds of wheat and other grains, sprouts etc., or are wet with sachit (contaminated with living organisms) water, or are smeared with sachit sand; if such eatables are in the hands of the donor, or in the pot of the donor; then he or she should consider it to be sachit or contaminated and faulty or unacceptable and should not take if offered.
If by chance (by mistake) some faulty food has been taken, he or she should carry that food to some forlorn place or in a garden
