without experience, slowness of the students in becoming members, the very slight co-operation of brother graduates, the brotherhood had been unable to do niore than this, though Mr. Desai was all active and very sanguine about its full establishment. As to how to remedy these defects, I will speak later on and I hope, next year we will be able to show better and brighter results if my suggestions are followed :
The amount of Rs. 5 was the only expense of the Brotherhood last year in holding the above-mentioned two public meetings and this sum was received from the funds of 1st S. G.
Mr. Kapadia C. M. the treasurer - of the 1st Social Gathering has asked me to inform you that Mr. Makanji J. Mehta has duly audited the accounts of that Gathering and that the Balance Sheet is as follows:
Total income from all sources-subscriptions of Students and donations from our rich people and graduates &c was Rs. 678--15-0 and the total expenditure was 673-13--3 leaving a balance of only Rs. 5--1--9 which has been carried over to the account of this year's gathering. Here it should not be forgotten to mention that about Rs. 75 subscribed by various gentlemen were not collected as the students could not spare sufficient time to do so. There are many other things curtains &c worth about Rs. 40 still in my possession and these are and will be utilised for similar succeding gatherings.
From this account some of you might be thinking that exceedingly large sums of money, were lavishly spent in external show last year but looking to the grand dinner, theatricals in full dress, erection of Mandap, Magic Performances, prizes for outdoor games and want of experience to guide us and taking into consideration the splendid success and a fund of activity and right thinking it had infused in the young
