TEXT. 1 Velidatapatasa (1) nekamasa Ramanakasa 2 Chhakalopakiyase lenam deyadhammañ chatudi(2)3 sasa bhikhusamghasa niyatitan data cha 4 nens akhayanivi kahapanasata 100 5 samghasa hathe eto Vasavathasa pavaïtasa chivari6 kam d&tavam bårasakań.

TRANSLATION. "Success! This cave, a pious gift of the merchant Ramanaka, son of Velidata, from Chhakalepa, bestowed on the universal Sangha of monks generally; and by the same have been given as a perpetual endowment one-hundred-100- kahapanas in the hands of the Sangha, Out of this a cloth money of twelve kahdpaņas is to be given to the ascetic who keeps the vasen (here)."
Chh&kalepa or Chhagalepa, a village or a town, & region or & clan, has not yet been identified ; on chivarika and the sum of twelve kárshápanas, either as interest for an investment of one-hundred kárshápanas, or as the amount of the chivarika, compare above, No. 12.
