poco ] Jainism v/s Gujarati Text Books. [249 pointed out in the Appendix hereto annexed and marked A together with the corrections and substitutes that may be aptly put in.
Our Association submits that mistakes like those mentioned in this memorial are due to the neglect of Jain literature in the curriculum of University studies and consequent want of familiarity with the ideas contained in that literature. Our Association begs to draw attention to a petition (copy whereof is hereto annexed and marked B.). addressed by us on the 2nd day of July last to the Registrar of the Bombay University for presentation in due course to the Syndicate, in which we complained of exclusion of of Jain literature from the Syllabus of vur University and asked for the inclusion of some, at least, of the large number of Jain works which deserve a place in the curriculum of the Sanscrit studies in our Arts course. In your capacity of Vice Chancellor of the Bombay University, we trust you will use your legitimate influence to see that justice is done to our prayers and that some at least of the Jain texts are prescribed for studies in Arts.
Our immediate prayer to you is that as soon as conveniently possible, you will take steps to see that historic and other inaccuracies pointed out by us are corrected. It will be far better if lessons in yuestion are recast and written again. The public in general have heard with great satisfaction the arrangements made by you in the matter of a similar grievance of the Mahomedan Community. Our Association hopes ard trusts that with your usual liberal spirit and broad mindedness, you will direct the nessary changes in the text books so commonly used in our schools and thus give proper redress for onr just grievances.
