Higher Technical Education amongst youths and to give thep ractical shape to his sujjestion, recommends our educated le:ders in general and the Conference in particular to take up the question in right earnest.
Looking to the present situation of our country, when the wave of Swadeshirm is spread from one end to the other, when the boycott movement is tossed about with full force and when so many new branches of industry have been opened, Prof. Parekh's sujjestion deserves the quickest consideration. In the field of industry of our country, we Jains play not the less important part than other people. Good many branches of Indian Trade are in our hands and to put them all on the scientific bilses to compete with the Western as well as with other people of the world with advantage, we do require a sort of Education as sujjestel by the learned Profersor. However one nay not fully concur with Mr. Parekh. His statement about the deplorable state of the graduates may be universal with others than Jains. As for us who still lack so much in Higher Education in comparison with other communities, such as farsis, Bengalis, Madrases &c., one can't. imagine huw Mr. Parekh's statement should be taken as quite correct ! We have as yet a very few Pleiders and Doctors who can be counted on our fingers' end. Some of these have a very satisfactory practice. As for the rest, if they are brief-less and patient-less, the fauit is not so much with them but it is with us. Why should we go to others and not to our own Pleaders and Doctors, whenever we are in need of them. If we all make up our minds to give our suits to Jain and to take medicine from our Jain Pleaders and Doctors, they too will have the same footing as their other well-established professional brethern. Some exceptional cases, wanting in ability and originality may be excluded Even in this city where cur population amounts in vast number we have only three or four Jain. Pleaders and one Jain Doctor. Can they be said to be quite enough? And yet only one has somewhat satisfactory practice. Why so ? The reason is not far to find out. We shamnefully lack in sympathy,
