________________ 26 THE INDIAN ANTIQUART. (JANUARI, 1908. = In choosing a generio form for the title of each word illustrated below, I have followed Yule's form whenever there was one, and in cases where words are not in Yule, I have ased that form which is most familiar to myself and I presume to other contemporary students. I have also quoted Wheeler's Notes on and Extracts from the Government Records of Madras for 1679-81, as N. and E. to illustrate the text. It is a pity that it is not a better book for students, and the same may be said of Wilson's Early Annals of the English in Bengal, Vol. I., Also occasionally quoted. Crawford's Descriptive Dictionary of the Indian Islands and Adjacent Countries has also been sometimes brought into requisition to illustrate passages. Finally, I have frequently referred to previous notes of my own in this Journal, illustrating some of the words used in the text of the MS. ABAB8IN. Fol. 53.
