literature discussed by Pathak and Vidyabhushan evoked much interest, and for years together their conclusions held the ground.
Among the elderly Jaina scholars who were specially attracted by the results of Bhandarkar, Peterson, Pathak, Vidyabhushan etc., the names of Dalal , Jinavijayaji, Jugalkishore and Premi stand foremost; and their studies have been a source of inspiration to many Jaina scholars of the younger generation. With a remarkable forethought they realized the importance of Jaina collections of Mss., visited them, took down notes and their Prasastis and kept themselves busy in bringing to light important facts about Jaina authors and their compositions. Unluckily Dalal died a premature death; but that which stands against his name bears eloquent testimony to his earnest scholarship. The remaining three scholars are still amidst us and are continuing their studies in Indian literature in general and Jaina literature in particular.
Pt. Premiji wrote a number of monographs on various Jaina authors, and his Vidvadratnamālā ( Bombay 1912 ) contained six essays on Jinasena-Gunabhadra, Ašādhara, Amitagati, Vădirāja, Mallisena and Samantabhadra. During subsequent years his desire to collect information about different Jaina authors and their works went on increasing, with the result that he contributed many papers to his Jaina Hitaishi with which later on Pt. Jugalkishore also came to be associated. Some of the Introductions of the volumes of Māņikachandra D. Jaina Granthamālā show that both of them were bringing to light a large mass of facts. Pt. Premi's essay on the Jaina Hindi Literature ( Jaina Hitaishi vols. XII. pp. 541-568, XIII. pp. 10-35), presented to the seventh session of the Hindi Sāhitya Sammelana, Jubbalpore, clearly shows how studiously he must have worked in different Bhand!āras to collect historical and chronological data.
Though he spends a busy life as the Proprietor of the Hindi Grantha Ratnakara Karyalaya, Bombay, his yearning for research still continues unabated, and his note-books have gone on swelling
