(शिव सुखम्-आधाय) मोक्ष सुख को धारण कर, (कर्मणां विशुद्धये) कर्मो के क्षय के लिए (तपश्चरन्ति) तपश्चरण करते हैं।
What does an ascetic do by tiving in forest? Only such ascetics, whose delusion have ended, who have adopted five full vows, five care-fulnesses and three preservations, (disciplines), who are devoted to studies and meditation and who are keen to attain the eternal bliss of salvation - perform/ undergo hard and difficult austarities in order to destroy karmas.
दिनकर करणनिकरसंप्त, शिलानिचयेषु निष्पहाः, मलपटलावलिप्त तनवः, शिथिली कृतकर्म बंधनाः। व्यपगतमदनदर्प रतिदोष, कषाय विरक्त मत्सराः, गिरिशिखरेषुचंडकिरणाभि, मुखस्थितयो दिगम्बराः।।3।।
(मल-पटल-अवलिप्त-तनवः) जिनका शरीर मैल के समह से लिप्त हो रहा है, (शिथिलीकृत-कर्मबनधनाः) जिन्होंने कर्मों के बन्धनों को शिथिल कर दिया है, (व्यपगत-मदन-दर्प-रति-दोष-कषाय-विरक्तमत्सराः) जिनके काम, अहंकार, रति/राग, मोह आदि दोष तथा कषाय नष्ट हो चुके हैं तथा जो मात्सर्य भाव से रहित हैं; ऐसे (दिगम्बराः) दिशा रूपी अम्बर को धारण करने वाले निर्ग्रन्थ मुनिराज (निस्पृहाः) शरीर से ममत्व रहित व भोगोपभोग की इच्छा से रहित होकर (दिनकर-किरण-निकर-संतप्त शिलानिचयेषु) सूर्य की किरणों के समूह से संतप्त शिलाओं के समूह से युक्त (गिरि-शिखरेषु) पर्वतों के शिखरों पर (चण्ड-किरण-अभिमुक्ष-स्थितयः) सूर्य के सन्मुख स्थित हो (तपश्चरन्ति) तपश्चरण करते हैं।
What does an ascetic do in summer season? Such unknotted/digambar ascetics - whose body has become dirty and filthy, who have caused the bondages of karmas loose, whose faults/flaws named lust, ego, liking of sense subjects, attachment and delusion and passions are destroyed and who are devoid of envy/jealousy and who have giving up! abandoned the volition of mineness of body - sit on the rocks of mountains heated by sun rays, gazing towards the sun, perform difficult. Aatāpana yoga (excercise of undergoing and tolerating pain caused by heat).
