PREFACE
THE Tarkamita is one of the original texts on Navya Nyaya (Neo-logic) from the pen of Mahāmahopadhyaya Jagadīśa Tarkālaṁkāra Bhattacharyya, who flourished in Navadvipa (West Bengal) towards the end of 16th and early 17th century. The illustrious Mahāmahopadhyaya in a lucid style analysed critically the categories (Padartha) accepted by the Navya-Nyāya school in this concise treatise.
Mahopadhyaya Jivan Krishna Tarkatirtha deserves our congratulations for preparing an elaborate commentary on this important text not attempted before. It removes a long felt want of the students of logic and philosophy. The commentary bears the stamp of profound knowledge of Pandit Jivan Krishna as well as his capacity of elucidating the abstruse themes of modern logic. We are also thankful to Dr. H. K. De Choudhuri for his kind co-operation in the publication of the volume.
