________________ O S. C. Pathak muscle. It is our duty to cultivate respect for human values like love, sympathy, mercy, forgiveness. School is the place where they must be taught the art of give-and-take. The biggest demand of the day is to create ecological awareness among students. They must be made to realise that communal harmony is not an empty dream. It is the most important thing which our country needs today. Let us remember poet Iqbal. न समझोगे तो मिट जाओगे ऐ. हिन्दोस्तांवालो। तुम्हारी दास्तां तक भी न होगी दास्तानों में । Last word to students - your talent is not only yours. It is national property also. Develop it to the maximum possibility and use it for the betterment of the country alongwith your personal prosperity. Principal, Shree Jain Vidyalaya Kolkata Pilgrim's Progress Congratulations to Shree Jain Vidyalays, Howrah on the completion of a glorious decade in its academic journey. I offer my best wishes to the vidyalaya hoping that it will scale greater heights of success in the coming decades. One thing unique about the said school is to cater to the need of the middle class people of the Howrah region. Being no elite school it is completely dedicated to the service of the society. It is really a challenge to run an educational institution these days. Many elements try to take undue advantage. Political leaders and anti-socials elements exercise undue pressure on the teachers and managing body at the time of admission and promotion. It is hoping against hope to expect any protection from lawenforcing authorities which cannot protect themselves. Inspite of these odds, Shree Jain Vidyalaya, has been rendering valuable services to Howrah for the last ten years and I have been a witness to this phenomenon. A few words of advice to my fellow teachers. They must work hard to maintain and improve the reputation of the institution. They should be guided by the sole principle of enlightened self-interest. In the betterment of the institution lies the betterment of teachers. Most of the students are lazy, careless and inattentive, we can quote the words of Christ which he used about his crucifers. "Forgive them, Rather, they do not know what they are doing". Inspite of all the blames students are innocent. We should try to understand them. Many of them hail from families which have no academic atmosphere at home. What they see around them are the powers of money and विद्यालय खण्ड/१६ शिक्षा-एक यशस्वी दशक Jain Education International For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
