________________ Shri Mahavir Jain Aradhana Kendra www.kobatirth.org Acharya Shri Kailassagarsuri Gyanmandir ૨૨૨ શ્રી જન સત્ય પ્રકાશ. કાલિક in a royal family but of a malevolent disposition; out of ignorance and natural hatred he practises jokes at the strength of the Muni Vishva-bhuti. hears the jokes. It is a variety of endurances, ascetics have to put up within the maintenance of Charitra Dharma ( 27). If persons desirous of salvation, at the time of experiencing the twenty-two varieties of endurances (43798) put up with them with a pure heart, these endurances becoming instrumental in the destruction of former Karmas, and the stoppage of new Karmas bring Final Literation nearer like a true friend, The joking practised by Vishākhā-nandi is called Akrosha Parishaba (241512 246); it is the twelyth in the list of endurances (4:2296). If an ignorapt person under the influence of anger or malioe, were to insult an ascetic with unpleasant and defiling words, the Muni should not become angry with him, like Damadanta Muni, but will think within himself thus : “This man says unpleasant words, but he does me friendly service because whatever he told me is true; or what he says is a falsehood still it is not seemly for me to be angry with him.” So thinking, he need not become angry with him, but put up with the suffering willingly. One should always practise faultless, involantary and expiating penance with good intention and force of energy. That which makes the body warm is Tapa (au) penance. That which dries up the blood and juices of the body, mortifies flesh, fat, bones, bone-juice, vital energy and destroys evil Karmas, is called Tapa ( 14 ) penance. That penance should be faultless that is to say, without any desire for pleasures of this world as well as of the next, and it should be without any firm determination to do any particular act. The man who makes a firm resolution to obtain worldly pleasures after rigidly observing the religious rites of the true religion, nourishes the wishing tree (364991) capable of giving fruit and then burns it down. Besides, the Tapa (14) penance should be done with a heart fall of joy, but not unwillingly, like a work imposed by a king with only a frugal recompense or no recompense. It should be as much as is possible within one's capacity. It should be practised in such a way that evil ideas do not arise, and the senses and their functional activities are not injured. If a man inadvertently refrains himself from food, simply because of his subservient position or because he cannot obtain it although pitifully requested for, it is not a Tapa (au) penance, as it is the source of the advent For Private And Personal Use Only
