[Q.3] Bhante ! Do all infernal beings have the same colour ?
[Ans.] Gautam ! That is not possible.
[Q.] Bhante ! Why do you say so ?
[Ans.] Gautam ! Infernal beings are said to be of two kinds(1) Purvopapannak (born earlier ), and (2) Pashchadupapannak (born later). Of these those born earlier have pure colour and those born later have impure colour. That is why, Gautam ! It is said so.
[प्र. ४ ] नेरइया णं भंते ! सव्वे समलेसा ?
[उ. ] गोयमा ! नो इणट्टे समट्ठे ।
[प्र. ] से केणट्टेणं जाव नो सव्वे समलेसा ?
[उ.] गोयमा ! नेरइया दुविहा पण्णत्ता । तं जहा - पुव्वोववन्नगा य पच्छोववन्नगा य। तत्थ गं जे ते पुव्योववन्नगा ते णं विसुद्धलेसतरागा, तत्थ णं जे ते पच्छोववन्नगा ते णं अविसुद्धलेसतरागा । से तेणट्टेणं. एवं ..... ।
[प्र.४] भगवन् ! क्या सब नैरयिक समान लेश्या वाले हैं ?
[उ.] गौतम ! ऐसा सम्भव नहीं है।
[प्र.] भगवन् ! किस कारण से कहा जाता है कि सभी नैरयिक समान लेश्या वाले नहीं हैं ?
[उ.] गौतम ! नैरयिक दो प्रकार के होते हैं - (१) पूर्वोपपन्नक, और (२) पश्चादुपपन्नक। इनमें जो पूर्वोपपन्त्रक हैं, वे विशुद्ध लेश्या वाले और जो पश्चादुपपन्नक हैं, वे अविशुद्ध लेश्या वाले हैं, इस कारण हे गौतम! ऐसा कहा जाता है कि सभी नारक समान लेश्या वाले नहीं हैं ।

[Ans.] Gautam ! Infernal beings are said to be of two kinds— (1) Purvopapannak (born earlier ), and (2) Pashchadupapannak (born later). Of these those born earlier have pure leshya (complexion of soul) and those born later have impure leshya (complexion of soul). That is why, Gautam ! It is said that all infernal beings do not have the same leshya (complexion of soul).
