ॐ उवागच्छइ, उवागच्छित्ता भीए भयगग्गरसरे ‘भगवं सरणं' इति बुयमाणे ममं दोण्ह वि पायाणं अंतरंसि म झत्ति वेगेणं समोवडिए।
३०. तत्पश्चात उस असुरेन्द्र असुरराज चमर ने जब उस जाज्वल्यमान, यावत भयंकर वज्र को सामने आता हुआ देखा, तब उसे देखकर ('यह क्या है ?') इस चिन्तन में डूब जाता है, फिर (अपने स्थान पर चले जाने की) इच्छा करने लगा, अथवा (वज्र को देखते ही उसने) अपनी दोनों आँखें मूंद लीं ॥
और (वहाँ से चले जाने का) पुनः विचार करने लगा। (कुछ क्षणों तक) चिन्तन में डूबे हुए ज्यों ही स्पृहा , ॐ करने लगा (कि ऐसा अस्त्र मेरे पास होता तो कितना अच्छा होता।) त्यों ही उसके मुकुट का तुर्रा क (छोगा) टूट गया, हाथों के आभूषण (भय के मारे शरीर सूख जाने से) नीचे लटक गये; तथा पैर ऊपर है
और सिर नीचा करके मानो काँख से पसीना-सा टपकाता हुआ, वह असुरेन्द्र चमर उस उत्कृष्ट यावत् । ॐ दिव्य देवगति से तिरछे असंख्य द्वीप समुद्रों के बीचोंबीच होता हुआ, जहाँ जम्बूद्वीप नामक द्वीप है, जहाँ 9 भारतवर्ष है, यावत् जहाँ श्रेष्ठ अशोकवृक्ष है, वहाँ पृथ्वीशिलापट्टक पर जहाँ मैं (श्री महावीर स्वामी) 5
स्थित था, वहाँ आया। मेरे निकट आकर भयभीत एवं भय से व्याकुल गहराते हुए स्वर में चमरेन्द्र ॐ बोला-'भगवन् ! (अब) आप ही मेरे लिए शरण हैं' इस प्रकार बोलता हुआ मेरे दोनों पैरों के बीच में 5 वेगपूर्वक गिर पड़ा (छिप गया)।
30. When that Chamarendra, the overlord (Indra) of Asurs saw that glowing... and so on up to... terrifying thunderbolt coming at him, he 41 thought (what it was ?) and wished (to return to his abode). In other 卐 words, as soon as he saw the Vajra (thunderbolt) he closed his eyes and thought (of returning home). He was lost into his thoughts and wishes (It would have been good had I possessed such a weapon.) for a few moments when the crest of his crown shattered, the ornaments on his arms hung loose (as if his body had shrunk due to fear). With his legs up and head down, and sweat dripping from his armpits, that

continents and seas arrived where I (Bhagavan Mahavir) stood on a slab of rock lying under an excellent Ashoka tree in the Ashoka garden, in Sumsumar-pur city, in Bharat-varsh in this Jambu continent. Having come near me that terrified Chamarendra uttered in a voice hoarse with terror-"Bhante ! (Now) You are my only refuge." Uttering these words
