________________ 43 Indeed man is intimidated by his own crimes . - [ त्वरितगतिः.] Of quick gait.[शङ्कितः . ] Afraid of or apprehensive. – [तुलयति ] -परीक्षते जनोऽयं मां चौर इति ज्ञातवान् न वेति. The Rhetorical figure here is अर्थान्तरन्यासः - Particular Corroboration.~सामान्येन विशेषसमर्थनरूपः. 'सामान्यं वा विशेषो वा तदन्येन समर्थ्यते । यत्तु सोऽर्थान्तरन्यासः साधर्म्येणेतरेण वा.' - Mammata. Metre प्रहर्षिणी – ज्याशाभिर्मनजरगाः प्रहर्षिणीयम्. P. 100. L. 20. [ मदनिकायाः कृते . ] — कृते ‘for, ' for the sake of— governs the genitive case. Cf. - ' अमीषां प्राणानां कृते . ' Bhartrihari, Vairágya III. 36. P. 101. L. 1-4 (Verse 3). I neglected him who was intent on conversation with the train and avoided the house solely inhabited by a female (lit. seeing that its owner was a woman). I stood (firm ) like the door-post when the town guard was at hand. With such hundred tricks I turned the night into day. - [ परिजन ० ] - परिजनेन परिवारेण कथा तत्रासक्तः. - [ गृहदारु . ] Door post. - [ स्थाणुः. ] Firm.~ [दिवसीकृती.] अभूततद्भावे च्वः - I made the night full of action like the day. Metre हरिणी-नसमरसलागः षड्वेदैर्हयैर्हरिणी मता. P. 101. L. 7. [तालवृन्त. ] Palm leaf used as a fan. 'व्यजनं तालवृन्तकम्'- --अमरः. P. 101. L. 14-17 (Verse 4). Surpassing even the god of love by her excellences, she shines like Rati incarnate and makes my heart burning with the fire of love cold like sandal. - [ विशेष. ] Excel. Cf. Malavikagnimitra III. 5. – रक्ताशोकविशेषितगुणो बिम्बाधरालक्तकः. The verse is cited in the Subhashitaratnabhándágára.— [ चन्दनशीतलम् ] - चन्दनेन शीतलं – Cool because of its being besmeared with sandal or cool like sandal. Rhetorical figure . Metre पुष्पिताग्रा, also called औपच्छन्दसिक. P. 102. L. 2. [ गवाक्षक ] - ( lit bull's eye) air-hole or window— गवामक्षीव Or गावो जलानि किरणा वाक्षन्ति व्याप्नुवन्ति एतमनेन वा अकर्तर्यर्थे घञ् 'अमरः. P. 102. L. 5. [ भुजिष्य ] – (भुज-किष्यत्) ( 1 ) slave, ( 2 ) Companion. 'भृत्ये दासेरदासेयदासगोप्यकचेटकाः, नियोज्यकिंकरमैष्यभुजिष्यपरिचारकाः' - भुङ्क्ते स्वाम्युच्छिष्टं भुज्यते वा 'रुचियुजिभ्यां किष्यन् ' ( उणा० ४।१७९ ) . - [ भुजिष्या . ] A concubine. S'arvilaka wanted to make her his lawful wife and free her from prostitution. He was required to purchase Madanikâ for this purpose and amply pay Vasantasenâ's avaricious mother, who would not liberate her but for sufficient sum to procure which he committed theft mentioned above. +
