niddhutena as a variant and he gives vasikṛtena as a Sanskrit equivalent of the reading niddhattena accepted by him.
9. The 6th gatha on p. 224 of our edition contains the reading je colaka-uvanayanesu. In its place they accept je celakauvanayanesu; (see Adhyayana 27, gāthā 5). The reading colaka available in all the four manuscripts and yielding the meaning 'caulakarma' fits well in the context and is authentic. Dr. Schubring explains in Sanskrit the reading celaka accepted by him as follows: cela tti ceṭako dásaḥ. Though Pt. Manoharamuniji accepts the reading celaka, he explains its meaning according to the reading colaka.

10. The 10th gāthā on p. 225 of our edition contains phitim khitim imam bhocca. In its place they accept phitim kittim imam bhocca; (see Adhyayana 28, gatha 10). The reading 'phitim (= vistīrṇāṁ) khitim (= pṛthvim)' yields the proper and authentic meaning 'extensive Earth'. In all the three manuscripts belonging to a Bhaṇḍāra in Patan we find khiti in place of khitim; here the copyist seems to have inadvertently forgotten to put an anusvāra on fa.
11. The 22nd gāthā on p. 226 of our edition contains the reading varam. In its place they accept the reading varo; (see Adhyayana 28, gāthā 22). Here I have given importance to the reading varam as it is available in all the four manuscripts I have utilised.
12. The 9th gatha on p. 230 of our edition contains the reading tam kammam tu nisevejja jenam bhavati nirae. In its place they accept tam kammam na sevejjā jeņam bhavati narae; (see Adhyayana 30, gāthā 8). This reading is wrong. The two manuscripts belonging to a Bhaṇḍāra in Patan and bearing Nos. 752 and 6872 yield the reading accepted by us, whereas the manuscript belonging to the same Bhaṇḍāra and bearing No. 10083 yields the reading accepted by us, with the minor scribal corruption of the syllable ni into na (in the word nisevejjā).
13. The 24th gatha on p. 240 of our edition cantains the reading jalamtam jātateyam vā. In its place they accept jalamtam jātaveyaṁ vā; (see Adhyayana 35, gāthā 23). The word jätateyam in the sense of agni (fire) has been recorded in the dictionary entitled Paiyasaddamahanṇavo. Moreover all the four manuscripts utilised by us yield the reading jätateyam. Hence we have accepted it.

14. The 13th gāthā on p. 242 of our edition contains the reading dukkho vanam davaggi vā. In its place they accept the reading akkheviņam davaggi vā; (see Adhyayana 36, gāthā 11; in Pt. Manoharamuniji's edition it is 12th gāthā). The two manuscripts belonging to a Bhaṇḍāra in Patan and bearing Nos. 752 and 10083 yield the reading accepted by us, whereas the third manuscript belonging to
