In some cases, the second element of a disguised compound has been practically reduced through phonetic decay to the status of a forma vive affix : e. g. the pāla>-wala, -āla element in compounds with it, and the īra element derived from kārc or āgāra as in suara, sonāra, kamāra, vhandāra etc, etc. (See above, Formative Affixes).
