Applying this conception as a practical test of the value of education in general and of any moral lesson in particular, the teacher will ask himself, in the case of the lesson, Have I adequately impressed the children with the feeling that this or that quality is a worthy one because it is capable of application to social service?" and in the case of the education generally," Have I made the children feel that the highest end of their school discipline is to render them effective servants of family, country and humanity?"

The imperative of moral education is "Service. It is an imperative consistent both with modesty and with the most strenuous quality of the manly or womanly soul. It is as comprehensible by the child as by the sage.
This conception is honoured alike by the humanist and by all :he creels.
Beef Eating And Islam.
Mr. Syed Nazir Ahmad Rizvi, Pleader and Municipal Commissioner of Sitapur, Oudh, writes to the Leader:
The British Rule in India is one of the great blessings of God. It enders possible our progress and under its benignant shadow we have een deriving immense benefits of which we never dreamt during the preious reigns. We must therefore remain attached and loyally attached to he present raj and try our best to make it more powerful and mighty. I m quite confident that the Crown is happy to see all its subjects united y one tie of affection and fellow-feeling. We should therefore exert to issipate all worldly differences and combine together to make our beloved ountry peaceful and free from any stir. I am sorry that the Hindus and he Mahomedans of India are not pulling on well and for this both are to lame. I pray God that the germs of disaffection should die out in the ear future and that by common co-operation the two communities should rosper under the kind patronage of the British throne. To my mind one f the great causes of hatred and ill-feeling between them is beef-eating hich is no uncommon among the Mahomedans. In my previous notes hich have met with the approval of many, I have shown to the public at in the practice of beef-eating there lies the reason for strong heartirning between the Hindus and the Mahomedans.
