Shri Shukal Chand Ji Maharaj then replied: Sushil Kumar Ji, I cannot give you Amrender.... ask for any other monk.
Sushil Kumar Ji was greatly disappointed. He said: Gurudev, I want Amrender Muni only. I see a special light in him which is not there in any other monk. I have never asked you for anything except this. If you refuse me now, I will never ask you for anything ever again.
Shri Shukal Chand Ji Maharaj was very softhearted. He also had a special fondness for Sushil Kumar Ji. So he smiled and said: Sushil Kumar Ji do not be sad and disheartened. I will give you Amrender Muni as your disciple.
However destiny had other plans. A few days later when Sushil Kumar Ji's group was leaving Ambala with Amar, Shri Suman Muni ,the head of the Shraman Sangh, stopped them from taking Amar away.
So Shri Sushil Kumar Ji and his group of monks had to leave Amar behind. Some more time would have to pass before Amar would come to him as his disciple.
Towards Enlightenment
In the Jain religion, Bhagwan Mahavir has said that the pursuit of knowledge or gyan is of utmost importance. Knowledge is the base for development of the self. He says: “ Know and then Act”.... Action without knowledge is useless and accumulation of knowledge without action is also useless.
Under the guidance of Shri Shukal Chand Ji Maharaj, young Amrender Muni was engrossed in the pursuit of knowledge and truth. Gurudev taught him not only the Jain scriptures but also gave him insight into other disciplines.
Very quickly he was able to absorb the knowledge imparted to him. Soon his understanding developed to an extent that he was able to
