Jainism has a very distinct idea underlying tirthankara worship. The physical form is not to be worshiped, rather it is the gunas (virtues and qualities) which are praised. Tirthankaras are only role-models, and sects such as the Sthanakvasi stringently reject the appearance of worshipping statues
The holiest symbol is a simple Swastika. The Swastika has 4 arms which signify the 4 gatis (planes of existence) which must be crossed to reach the apex. The four arms represent hell (the devil), animal, human and angel gatis.
