________________ The next two dhyanas are auspicious and help us to progress further in our spiritual journey. 3) Dharma Dhyana - When we meditate on the betterment of everyone we are practising Dharma dhyana. There are four subclassifications of this, as follows: i. Ajna (Agna)-vichaya Dharma dhyana: Meditating about the flawless nature of the views expressed by enlightened souls. ii. Apaya-vichaya Dharma dhyana: Meditating about how the true character of the self is clouded by its contact with "kasayas" such as anger, pride. Kasayas are things that tighten and confine the aatma- like greed, delusion (maya) etc. iii. Vipaka-vichaya Dharma dhyana: Meditating on the nature of the results of various karmas. "Vipaka" means fruits iv. Loka-samsthana-vichaya Dharma Dhyana: Meditating on the nature of the universe (Loka). Dharma dhyana takes our mind away from Aart and Raudra dhyana, which cause the accumulation of karmas. Dharma-dhyana constitutes the best type of satsanga (good company), which puts us on the right path to realize the truth. 4) Shukal Dhyana 'Shukal' means 'white or pure'. In Dharma dhyana, the mind concentrates upon certain features of worldly existence while in Shukal dhyana the mind gradually shortens the field of concentration and becomes steady and motionless. And on the attainment of omniscience, the functions of the mind are completely annihilated. The qualities of Shukal dhyana are that it is Shuddh or pure, Buddh or imbued with pure knowledge, Nirakar - not having any desire and Niranjan ie having no attachment whatsoever.
