________________ effects of mantras. I started my speech today by reciting the Jain Namokar Mantra. It has the sound “Nam” after each line. This sound energizes Ida and Pingala which help us with Sansara. Navel center energy is awakened by Allahu, Sahunam and Manipadmehum. Sushmana has the energy to bring us closer to Samadhi. Mantras provide strong physical, mental, and spiritual protection for us. They awaken a sleeping power within your soul. This power spreads through your energy body, to your mind, and it finally settles in your physical body. This provides a broad spectrum of protection. It helps drive away the bad thoughts that hurt us, like anger, fear, greed, and hatred. It also helps us attain better physical health, and allows us to go through our daily life with a calm mind. Mantra jap makes us more aware of our true spiritual nature and brings us closer to liberation because the mantra has the power to destroy the deeply ingrained impressions of bad karma. The Guru's role The Guru is one who has harnessed the power of sound. When he gives the disciple a mantra, this sound is alive. It is the same thing as eating. Before we eat, we and the food are separate. But after we chew, digest and assimilate the food, it becomes part of us. We do not call it food anymore, because it has become part of our blood, body and life force. It is no longer separate. So when the Guru gives a mantra, the disciple at first is separate from the mantra. But after he or she has spent some time repeating it with love and faith, following the proper techniques, the disciple will completely absorb the mantra. It will be part of the life force and will work positively for him or her. It is the duty of the disciple to practice faithfully and follow the guidance of the Guru. The disciple should not only have the attitude that the Guru will give all the benefits. He will indeed do so, but first the disciple must forget who is the giver and who is the receiver.
