• Ari: With 70,000,000 mantras, it is important to understand
that mantras can have a wide range of effects. For example, Ari mantras are used by evil persons to do physical harm or destroy their enemies. But remember that the fundamental virtue of Jainism is compassionate non-violence towards all living beings.
This is central to the Jain teachings. 3. BY NUMBER OF SOUNDS. Mantras are also categorized by the
number of their sounds as follows: (Generally the fewer the number of sounds, the more powerful the mantra.) • Pinda Mantra has one sound. Such as Om or Hreem. • Kartari mantra has two sounds. • Beeja mantra has three to nine sounds. • Mantra) mantra has ten to twenty sounds. And,
• Mala mantra has more than twenty sounds. 4. BASIC NATURE. Mantras are also classified by the way they affect your nature:
Sattva mantras bring calm, clear thinking and general feeling of
spiritual light. • Rajas mantras will make you more active. • And Tamas mantras will make you angry, subject to inertia and
less likely to pursue a spiritual path. 5. OTHER MANTRAS. The final category is mantras that cause
disruption. These are cursing mantras and are called Sabar or Dabar.
