Some other things they observe are : They do not eat before sunrise or after sunset • They drink boiled water They walk bare footed and do not sit in a car, train, airplane or any other vehicle They do not stay in one place for a long time • They do not touch any person of the opposite sex even children of the opposite sex. They do not get involved in social matters • Some monks wear no clothes while others wear white clothes only • They offer spiritual guidance to us- Self-discipline and purity is an essential part of their daily lives Practical advice for Repetition of the Namokar Mantra We should prepare ourselves to chant the Namokar Mantra by feeling love, devotion and oneness. Visualize the arihanta and merge with him. Purify the mind of desires, thoughts and negativities. The body must be clean and peaceful and the seat should be clean. Sit comfortably with the back erect, facing North or East. Apply the Namokar Mantra to your body with colours five times, then repeat one mala of the mantra (108 repetitions). The mantra will not become completely active unless it is first applied in this way before repetition.
