________________ his ceremonial fire. Unknown to him, there were two serpents inside a big log. When Lord Parshwanath came there he realised with his intuitive powers that there were two live serpents burning inside the fire. He asked the yogi why he was destroying living beings. The yogi replied that he was only destroying his own tendencies with his penances and prayers and was not harming any living thing. Then Lord Parshwanath pulled the burning log out of the fire and split it open, and sure enough there were two badly burned serpents inside. In their final moments, he bestowed the Namokar Mantra on them. They accepted the Namokar Mantra with faith and devotion, and were reborn as Dharanendra and Padmavati, in the human form. Dharanendra and Padmavati Devi became the loyal servants of Lord Parshwanath and served him with faith and devotion. Lord Parshwanath comes to the aid of whoever remembers him even now. The mantra jap of Ma Padmavati is done to help one in times of trouble. She is easily pleased and her mantra jap gives quick results. It is considered auspicious to chant one or twenty seven malas of Lord Parshwanath's" Upsarg Har Stotra" before starting the Jap of Ma Padmavati. Whoever wants to chant the mantra of Ma Padmavati should start it on a Friday .They have to chant OM HREEM PADME ऊँ ह्रीं पद्मे । for sixteen Fridays continuously on a mala made of red corals. The seat on which they are sitting and the clothes that they are wearing should be red. They should remain celibate during this period, and they should think pure thoughts. After the sixteen Fridays are completed, sixteen devotees should be given devotional items and sixteen maidens or sixteen people should be fed. shantidoot | messenger of peace Jain Education International 152 For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
