________________ At the Governmental level, encouragement is being given to silk farming, fish farms and poultry farming. However violence is hidden even in this apparently harmless activity for in the end, the very reason for nurturing these animals is to kill them. In medicines we find blood, intestines and fish oils being widely used. It is important to oppose this. The difference between religion and spirituality: Spirituality is the basis of human life. A man cannot live without it. One should understand ones dharma and remain connected to it. There is a huge difference between religion and spirituality... as much as the difference between day and night. Spirituality binds people together and religion separates them. We can achieve something only if we rise above religion. By creating religious divisions, man has corrupted spirituality and brought society down to a pitiful state. Religious sects have diluted the real essence of spirituality and people have forgotten the purpose of religion. The way to peace is through meditation: The best way to achieve peace of mind is through meditation. Meditation takes one to the depths of one's heart where peace resides. Turbulence is superficial and cannot reach the depths that meditation takes us to. Only through meditation can unfulfilled desires, unhappiness and unresolved sanskaras (past life impressions) and vestiges of past karma be wiped out. When body speech and mind are aligned and focused in concentration we are in a state of meditation. We can meditate by fixing our thought on a single goal, ideal or an enlightened being or personal God. One finds a deep stability in meditation. shantidoot i messenger of peace 116 Jain Education International For Private & Personal Use Only www.jainelibrary.org
