Ant. vol. ill. p. 162.) With regard to the date 668 for the last but one, given in the former, the following is the note in Mr. Taylor's translation -"The date s. s. 591 is introduced apparently by a specimen of the mode of using words for numbers-vasthu-grega 500, banna 90, yuddha 1." I should be very glad to see some explanation of this, & according to all such cases I have met with the figures have to be taken backwards. I conjecture that vastku should have been read wursha. * Cf. Någamangala inscription.
