दीर्घमार्ग वाले चतुर्गतिरूप संसार सागर में परिभ्रमण करता है। अतः चंचल और अशाश्वत इस संसार में सभी जीवों के लिए आसक्ति ही संसार - भ्रमण का कारण है । ऐसा जानकर मैं ज्ञान - दर्शन - चारित्र की उपासना करूँगा। ज्ञान-दर्शन - चारित्र की उपासना कर, अनादि यावत् संसारवन का अतिक्रमण कर, शिव, अचल, यावत् शाश्वत स्थान को प्राप्त कर मैं वहीं स्थिति करूँगा ।
Different classes of beings, infernal ones, unevolved gross beings, animals, angels and human beings, tread their prescribed respective courses in the vast universe, perpetually, after budging from their original station. Myself seeks happiness for itself in the instant incarnation to have a miserable aftermath hereafter. Myself is snared and allured and tempted by this instable, transitory and chaotic world. Then it falls prey to it and meets its last doom. In a fresh spell of suffering it further encounters calamities of incarceration, disintegration and ruination. This abysm of life is too deep for human beings devoid of Yoga, tranquillity and equanimity. Man is inextricably bound to mundane existence. This bondage carries him like flotsam along the immeasurable oceanic expanse. That reveals how this rut of attachment is the cause of endlessly miserable but transitory course of life for individuals. Having realised this truth, I resolve to cultivate righteous knowledge, vision and conduct, and thereby surmount this fierce jungle called life, to attain the station par excellence, infallible and supremely accomplished ever and anon.
कन्तारे वारिमज्झे वा, दित्ते वा अग्गिसंभमे । तमंसि वा जधा णेता, तधा धम्मो जिणाहितो ।। 1 ।।
1. जैसे जंगल, जल, प्रकाश, अग्नि ज्वाला और अन्धकार में मार्गदर्शक आवश्यक है वैसे ही जिन प्रतिपादित धर्म का ज्ञान आवश्यक है।
1. As one requires guidance in a jungle, watery course, dazzling light, fire and darkness, so one requires knowledge of Jainism.
धारणी सुसहा चेव, गुरु भेसज्जमेव वा। सद्धम्मो सव्वजीवाणं, णिच्चं लोके हितंकरो ।। 2 ।।
2. सर्वंसहा पृथ्वी और प्रशस्त औषधियाँ इस लोक में प्राणीमात्र के लिए हितकर हैं। इसी प्रकार सद्धर्म भी इस लोक में समस्त प्राणियों के लिए सर्वदा हितकर है।
