3. जो पुरुष पाप करता है निश्चयतः उसे अपनी आत्मा प्रिय नहीं है; क्योंकि आत्मा स्वकृत कर्मों को स्वयं ही भोगती है।
3. A vile indulgent is no well-wisher to his own self for it is the self that has to suffer the outcome of its own deeds.
पावं परस्स कुव्वन्तो, हसते मोहमोहितो।
मच्छो गलं गसन्तो वा, विणिघायं ण पस्सति।।4।। ___4. मोहग्रस्त जीव दूसरे (की हानि) के लिए पाप करता हुआ हंसता है। मछली (आटे की गोली) गले में उतारते समय नाशकारी कांटे को नहीं देखती है।
4. An engrossed individual wishing ill to others takes his sin jocularly. He is like an angled fish unaware of the hook swallowed by it.
पच्चुप्पण्णरसे गिद्धो, मोहमल्लपणोल्लितो।
दित्तं पावति उक्कण्ठं, वारिमज्ञ व वारणो।।5।। 5. जैसे जल में रहा हुआ हाथी अत्यधिक उत्तेजित होता है वैसे ही मोहमल्ल द्वारा प्रेरित आत्मा वार्तमानिक-तात्कालिक भोगों में अत्यासक्त और उत्तेजित होता है।
5. An inebriated elephant in abandonment in aquatic frolic is devoid of all sobriety. So is a man truly tipsy with engrossment of momentary pleasures.
परोवघाततल्लिच्छो, दप्पमोहबलुद्धरो।
सीहो जरो दुपाणे वा, गुणदोसं ण विन्दती।।6।। 6. दूसरे का घात करने वाला लिप्सु व्यक्ति अहंकार और मोहमल्ल से उद्धत होने के कारण गुण और दोष से शून्य अर्थात् विवेकशून्य हो जाता है। जैसे जर्जरवृद्ध सिंह निर्बल प्राणियों का वध करते समय विवेक-शून्य हो जाता है।
6. A sadist bent upon harming others is power-drunk, egocentric and totally blind to moral judgment. He is like a decrepit tiger still capable of perpetrating untold tyrannies on the feeble beasts.
सवसो पावं पुरा किच्चा, दुक्खं वेदेति दुम्मती।
आसत्तकण्ठपासो वा, मुक्कधारो दुहट्टिओ।।7।। 7. पूर्वकृत पाप-कर्म के वशीभूत होकर दुर्मति जीव दुःख का अनुभव करता है। वह गले में फंदा कसकर दुःख और विपदाओं की धारा में अपने आपको छोड़ देता है। 424 इसिभासियाई सुत्ताई
