सर्वज्ञ की देशना नाना अवस्था और उदय के भेद से सामान्य और विशेष दो प्रकार की होती है। सामान्य संगीतमय होने से वस्तुतत्त्व का स्पर्शमात्र करती है और विशेष मर्मवेधक होने से वस्तुतत्त्व का पूर्णरूपेण दर्शन कराती है।
____11. The preaching of the enlighted is pleasant and melodiously welcome to the common folk but it truly comes home to the superior beings. Thus the effect of such a preaching may prove barely superficial or truly profound depending on the different qualities of the listener.
सव्वसत्तदयो वेसो, णारम्भो ण परिग्गहो।
सत्तं तवं दयं चेव, भासन्ति जिणसत्तमा।।12।। 12. जिन श्रेष्ठ (जिनेश्वर) समस्त प्राणियों का उदय, वेष (मुनिवेष), अनारम्भ, अपरिग्रह, सत्य या सद्भाव, तप और दया का उपदेश देते हैं।
12. The great Jain saints in the garb of monks preach nonentrepreneurship, non-acquisition, truth, sincerity, austerity and compassion to all.
दन्तिन्दियस्स वीरस्स, किं रणेणऽस्समेण वा?।
जत्थ जत्थेव मोदेज्जा, तं रणं सो य अस्समो।।13।। 13. दमितेन्द्रिय (इन्द्रियों का दमन करने वाले) वीर पुरुष के लिए अरण्य (जंगल) और आश्रम की क्या आवश्यकता है? जहाँ-जहाँ 'मोदेज्जा' आन्तरिक प्रसन्नता है अथवा मोह का अन्त/क्षय है वही उसके लिए जंगल है और वही उसके लिए आश्रम है।
13. An austere being is truly brave. He cares naught for wilderness and hermitage. Wherever he experiences bliss and non-attachment is the wilderness and the hermitage to him.
किमु दन्तस्स रपणेणं, दन्तस्स वा किमस्समे?।
णातिक्कन्तस्स भेसज्जं, ण वा सत्थस्सऽभेज्जता।।14।। 14. जितेन्द्रिय के लिए जंगल क्या? और दमनशील के लिए आश्रम क्या? अर्थात् उसके लिए दोनों समान हैं। रोगमुक्त के लिए अथवा मर्यादाओं से पार के लिए कोई औषध नहीं है और शस्त्र के लिए अभेद्यता नहीं है।
14. What is a wilderness to an austere? What is a hermitage to an ascetic? What remedy is needed for the health? What shield is needed to protect oneself from weapons?
