मूर्ख शिकारी के बाण मृग का वेध नहीं कर सकते। (वैसे ही मूढमुनि ज्ञानवान नहीं हो सकता।)
22. If a continent being be once irascible, he should keep off existing objects. A clumsy hunter's arrows never hit a deer. (Similarly, a stupid monk never acquires wisdom).
पच्चाणं चेव रूवं व, णिच्छयम्मि विभावए। किमत्थं गायते वाहो, तुण्हिक्का वावि पक्खिता।।23।।
23. मुनि वेष और रूप का निश्चय से विचार करे। शिकारी के गायन को सुनकर पक्षिवृन्द किसलिए चुप हो गये हैं? अर्थात् पक्षिवृन्द वेष और लिंग से उसकी हिंसात्मक भावना को समझ कर चुप हो जाते हैं।
23. A monk should contemplate the garb prescribed for him. What silences the birds, once a hunter begins to sing a song to attract him? Obviously, they can unravel his motives by his looks and deeds.
कज्जणिव्वत्तिपाओग्गं, आदेयं कज्जकारणं।
मोक्खनिव्वत्तिपाओग्गं, विण्णेयं तं विसेसओ।।24।। 24. कार्य की निष्पत्ति के लिए उचित कार्य-कारण अपेक्षित हैं। मोक्ष- . निर्वृति की रचना (प्राप्ति) के लिए वे ही उचित कार्य-कारण विशेष रूप से अपेक्षित
24. Proper cause alone results in corresponding effect. Deliverance warrants suitable series of action culminating into emancipation.
परिवारे चेव वेसे य, भावितं तु विभावए।
परिवारेऽवि गम्भीरे, ण राया णीलजम्बूओ।।25।। 25. स्वभाव से भावित आत्मा ही परिवार और मुनिवेष में रहते हुए विशुद्ध दशा प्राप्त कर सकती है। अर्थात् आत्मवंचना न करे। विशाल परिवार से परिवृत होने पर भी वंचक होने के कारण नीलजाम्बूक-रंगा सियार राजा नहीं हो सका।
25. A genuinely inspired soul alone can sublimate himself, whether he is surrounded by his kins or is practising as a monk. Insincerita would evidently be fatal, in either case. In the fable of jackal Nilajambuk's belonging to a large family could not promote him to the chiefdom owing to his contradictory character.
